Seizure First Aid Training for School Personnel

EFMK is proud to offer on-demand training available 24/7. This on-demand training is designed for people who work with children and youth in school settings and provides an overview of seizures and epilepsy, seizure first aid, seizure action plans, rescue therapies, seizure emergencies and how to support students in school settings. All school personnel, including classroom teachers, special education teachers, nurses, administrators, librarians, coaches, paraprofessionals, custodians, drivers, support staff, and others will benefit from this important training.

About the Training

  • Access from anywhere at anytime
  • Approximately 45 minutes to complete (includes the video lesson and post-assessment)
  • Participants will receive a post-training assessment
  • After submitting the assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion

**If you are providing training to a group, each participant will need to register and complete the assessment individually to receive the required certificate of completion.**

Learning Objectives

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of epilepsy
  • Recognize common seizure types, treatment options, and their possible impact on student learning
  • Have an understanding and see the importance of a Seizure Action Plan, sometimes called an Individualized Health Plan
  • Recognize when a seizure is a medical emergency
  • Know appropriate first aid for seizures

Who can take the course?

  • Anyone can take the course, but the content of the on-demand training is designed for school personnel.

Are there any prerequisites to take the course?

  • No

Are there any required materials or equipment needed to take the on-demand course?

  • Participants will need access to a computer or device with reliable, high-speed internet to complete the course.

How long does the on-demand training last?

  • While this will vary by participant, successful completion of the course includes the video lesson and a post-assessment. The video lesson is approximately 30 minutes and the post-assessment consists of several multiple-choice questions. EFMK estimates that participants will need 45 minutes to complete the video and post-assessment. The post-assessment must be submitted by the participant before the certificate of completion can be issued.

Is it ok to watch the training as a group? 

  • Yes, but each participant will need to register and complete the assessment individually to receive the required certificate of completion.
